New Zealand is moving to Orange - what does this mean for you?

The Government has announced that all of New Zealand is changing from Red to Orange setting of the traffic lights (COVID-19 Protection Framework) at 11:59pm on 13 April.

What this means for your business:

  • There are no more capacity limits for indoor or outdoor settings.
  • Face masks are still required for staff and customers in many indoor settings.

Checking My Vaccine Passes

It is no longer a requirement to check vaccine passes but you can still choose to do so. If you do, here are some things to consider:

. Whether you will accept overseas vaccination certificates.
Vaccine passes are not issued for children under 12 years and three months, so you cannot require My Vaccine Passes for this age group.
Ensure your staff understand your policy.

Fringe benefit tax changes

Fringe benefit tax rates increased in April 2021. Business owners continuing to use the single rate when filing their taxes will increase their FBT liability by 30%, so it may be worth considering other options. 

A new pooled rate option of 49.25% is now available for certain employees. This has applied since 1 April 2021.

The new financial year began on 1 April 2022. So now is a great time to forecast what your business expenses could look like and plan what you can do to reduce your tax costs this year.  

You can claim for your business and vehicle expenses, as well as the depreciation of assets kept in your business for longer than a year.
